Future home

Sometimes our yard looks like kaos! Especially when there is a cubby being built.

JB and IB have been looking for a place to build a cubby since we moved into this property and one afternoon they finally found the ideal space.

Gathering the items they needed they began to construct the area to their liking, adding signs, seating, a kitchen area and an "emergency exit". The construction kept them busy all afternoon.

When it was finished they went and gathered one of their sisters and the dog "to check it out" and have some "Wombat Stew".

JB refers to the cubby as "Future Home"( I'm still wondering when he is moving out there!) and it has become a favorite hangout for the kids.

JB loves to video and grabbed my camera to document the construction. If you want to check out his first You tube video click here...The future home

See you later!

RAW

AT was so excited to be invited to showcase her work at a local RAW event the other week. RAW is an international event that promotes hair and makeup artists, musicians, photographers, dancers, fashion designers and creative artists.

The event was amazing. There is a lot of very talented people in our area with everyone is so passionate about what they do, as well as being supportive of each other.

I am so proud of AT. She worked hard for weeks before the night designing each of her models costumes including head pieces and even harder on the day of the event, painting and air brushing from 8.30am till when the doors opened at 7.30pm.

The models (sister and friend!) were so brave and had a great time. Getting on stage in front of everyone took guts!!
After a long day we were all very excited of how well the night went and began to make plans for another RAW event, maybe Sydney?

Hippy chick.

Trying to keep white shirts, white, in this house is a challenge. When your children like to paint, draw, cook and play in the mud and you are a mother spends as little time in the laundry as possible, white shirts are not going to stay clean for too long.
So when IB pulled a shirt out of the wardrobe with paint mark staining it I suggested that we upcycle by tye dyeing it.

Here's how we did it:
First we soaked it in "Soda ash" which helps the dye fix to the fabric.
Then we dried it. (Thank goodness it was a hot and windy day cause little miss was having a hard time waiting)
After it had dried we tied elastic bands tight in random spots.
Using spray bottles filled with pink and blue dye IB sprayed all over the shirt while I turned it around.
Then we had to wait till it dried again!!! ( This stage took longer cause it had started to rain!!)
Cutting off the elastic bands was the final step which revealed the unique print.

IB loves the shirt so much and hasn't taken it off for three days!

All the products we used were left overs from AT's textiles work  which we had purchased from here BATIK OETORO.

Peace and love to you all!

Creative cooking

I try to encourage creative thinking in my children, so when IB suggested that she wanted to cook a green cake with pink icing, I got out the ingredients and let her go for it.

After lots of experience in cooking she is now an expert at measuring, egg cracking, pouring and beating.

Licking the beaters is always a highlight of the experience!
After having a play in the backyard (explains the face..don't worry she washed her hands) it was time to plaster on the icing.
Waiting for everyone to come home that day seemed to take forever, but it was definitely worth the wait!

See ya
