100th logged find.

We have been Geocaching for about 4 years now and have lost count of how many we have found. Up until the recent app was brought out it was difficult to formally log our finds, so many of them haven't been recorded and some don't exist any more, so knowing how many we have actually found is tricky.
I have been watching our "logged finds" get higher until it reached 99, and decided that number 100 had to be a challenge, not just a easy drive by, so on a overcast Saturday we decided that a hide on Munibung hill that I have had my eye on was going to be lucky 100.
Once we figured out how to find the fire trail entrance we started up the gravel track on our way to the "cave" in which it was hidden. The track that came off this trail was very overgrown, but it was the one that we were sure lead to our destination, so we designated Laura to be the leader and sent her down first (after she first snap chatted it!)
The cave was more of a overhang, after a quick glance around we new exactly where it would be and once we moved some stones it was found. The kids were quick to open it up and grab a "swap"each before we signed the log and hung out for a while having some lunch.
A great find for our 100th logged as well as a great way to spend a overcast day.

Induction.

Yesterday we watched proudly as Laura was inducted as school vice captain. Although she hasn't been at the school for too long she has obviously made a great impression with her peers and teachers and has worked hard to deservedly be awarded this position.

Well done Laura!

Experimenting with colour...

Ivy loves creating with anything she can get her hands on, she has her own creative space out in the garage and often will put on her "creating music" (ABC classical! ) so she can "relax and make stuff".

The other day after finding a dropper in the top drawer, she gathered some cups, food colouring and a selection of flowers to experiment with and sat herself at the kitchen bench ready to explore the materials.

She concentrated so hard on the task, peering closely at each flower as she coloured it before carefully placing it down on the tray so not to spill the drops.

After spending most of the morning working on her creation, she proudly put it to the side so she could show her siblings when they came home that afternoon.

Loving her creative side...

A cake for Granny.

Last Wednesday the younger kids and I took the opportunity to go to Sydney and surprise mum for her birthday. Ivy decided that she wanted to make her Granny a chocolate cake but without enough cocoa, we settled on a butter cake recipe which soon changed into a Rainbow cake after Ivy's morning of colour experimentation (more on that another day).
We make basic cakes, nothing too fancy and we are definitely not as talented as my sister who upstaged me by literally making a Rainbow shaped cake! - she is amazing!, but we always have fun at giving it a go.
After making the cake mix and dividing it into three, the kids chose what colours they wanted then added the food colouring and mixed well. "Blobbing" the mix randomly into the pan was probably the best part, and at this point I had no idea how it was going to work... we were winging it.
We kept a very close eye on the cake, we have a habit of burning things, and when it was cooked we held our breath as it came out of the pan. When it was cool they iced it in the only colour which hadn't been used, green, and we drove down to arrive on mums doorstep, just as she got home.
I'm not sure which surprised her the most, us being there, the cake or the "bouquet" of spinach that we presented her, but it either way it was an great morning spent celebrating her birthday.

Happy birthday Granny,
Mummy Bear.

Fleetwood

After 6 months of waiting the day had finally arrived for Amber and I to see Fleetwood Mac at Hope estate.... and it was raining. Not just a little sprinkle but pouring down (so much so that our roof sprung a leak... ). So after a quick trip to Bunnings... not for roof fixing stuff but big black industrial gum boots, we geared up with wet weather jackets and bussed it up the valley for a quick bite before battling the crowds for a good vantage point. Being poor we were part of the huge crowd in the general admission area and it was packed... people where shoulder to shoulder, practically sitting on each other, but somehow, after going for a sticky beak we found ourselves in the perfect spot right on the barrier and as close as we were going to get. All this happened right in time to see Angus and Julia Stone! Yeah, one of Ivy and my favourite bands! They were so good, and so talented... Next was going to be the long awaited Fleetwood Mac... people were swarming around to steal our positions, but I needed a drink and a bathroom visit, so Amber was left to defend our spot! She did well ( she's tough) and very soon after I came back Fleetwood Mac came onto the stage and it started to rain...alot, but that didn't stop the enthusiasm of the band or the crowd. They were AMAZING!! considering their age and personal issues it is unbelievable that not only are they still together but also still rock! The rain continued to fall as they played for 2 hours ending in an encore. We left sludging through the mud (thankful those gum boots!) happy and grateful that we have experienced one of the best bands in history...

In the trees.

.
After the last soccer game, Jay and his team mates were invited to Tree top adventure park

Gearing up took a long time, as there was three groups in at once, but they worked quickly to get the kids out there and explain the safety aspect before letting them loose onto the courses.

Each course is levelled according to its difficulty and soon Jay was up onto the highest his age group was allowed. Ivy was determined to get there as well, but fear sometimes took over, making her legs freeze and the tears come.Watching from bellow it was hard for me to encourage her to keep going, even Jay couldn't convince her, but luckily the crew there were quick to climb up and rescue her.

Seeing the kids smiles when they succeeded was great. We will definatly head back there another time.
